Here is the 3rd installment of playing dress up! YEAH! We are getting to close to being done. Today we are going to add the collar. Tomorrow we will finish the by adding sleeves dress:) YIPPEE!
So, the collar first. (I am making my dress all one color) this will be from your fabric B. If you have any questions or need clarification, please leave a comment or email me.
With RST, take your four collar pieces and pin 2 together. So you should now have 2 sets of 2. Only pin the top of shoulders. If you are using interfacing then iron the interfacing to the wrong side of the fabric to 2 of the collar pieces. Then pin the shoulders together. I am not using interfacing because I am using corduroy and it is already stiff enough.
Sew together.
Open both pieces and pin together the center square.
1/4 inch seam allowance. Sew together, pivoting at the corners. Clip the four corners. Carefully so you don't cut your seam;)
Flip right side out and pin or iron center square flat.
Top stitch the center square.
Pin bottom of collar onto top part of dress.
Here is what it should look like from the other side
Pin the other side and push collar toward center of dress.
It should look like this before you sew. The pins are on the top. Sew each side to the dress. Make sure not to sew the top close. You should be making 2 separate seams. Leave the arms open.
Flip dress right side out and press newly sew seam flat.
If you are using a contrasting color for bottom, sew the 4 X 45 inch strip onto the bottom of dress. Obviously, I am not using a contrasting color, so I am skipping this part.
That's it for today. Tomorrow we will add sleeves and finish the dress.
