Flair up

I have Spina Bifida. It has been a big set back from time to time, but usually, I am active and pain free. Well, I guess I was due for a flair up because boy did I have one today.
I was walking and thought, "man my back is hurting a little." Seconds later I was in so much pain I couldn't move. I was stuck laying on the cold tile floor. I think I spent about 30-45 minutes there. It got pretty cold and hard.
Luckily, my 4 year old brought me my cell phone. I called around and had 2 friends who literally saved me. One friend came over very quickly and found my pain pills. While I laid on the tile floor (waiting for the painkillers to kick in) she took care of my kids, made me as comfortable as possible, and chatted with me. As soon as the pain had subsided enough for me to crawl to the couch, I did. I wasn't able to put any weight on my left leg for a long time, but I am doing much better. I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO grateful for strong pain killers.
My other friend brought me lunch and cleaned my house. She also took my son to her house for a few hours, until my hubby could get off of work.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! to my 2 dear friends who were not on holiday and could help me off the floor;)

Also, my friend told me that some people where wondering why I have depression. Especially because they feel I am so talented. Funny question that is, especially from someone who doesn't understand or has never experienced depression. I would like to explain depression. I am NOT depressed because I think I am worthless or because I think negatively. Those who know me, know I am a very cheerful and upbeat person. That is not a facade. That is who I am when I am not depressed.
My depression started after I had my daughter. I got severe post partum depression. I was put on medication for it. When hubby graduated, our insurance changed and my psychologist didn't accept our new insurance. Long story short, my medicine ran out. I went off my anti-depressant cold turkey (that is a big no no with this type of medicine). I got really sick, went through withdraw and rebounded hard core. It was during the rebound, that I attempted suicide.
I have a hormonal/chemical imbalance. It is no different a disease than someone with diabetes or allergies. It is a medical problem that I have to take medication to treat. I wish all I had to do was think happy thoughts and I would be better, but it is not so simple.
My body doesn't balance itself out on its own. I have to have medication to replace the chemicals in my brain that non-depressed people's bodies automatically make. So, if you learn nothing else, it is a medical problem that I have absolutely no control over. My path was complicated by insurance which made my depression worse. BUT, I am treating it and pushing on and that is was really matters. Many may not understand my story, but that is why I openly share it. I want to create an awareness and better understanding of what depression really is. It is a disease, a malfunction in a person's body. It is not a disease that is visible to the naked eye, but still debilitating non the less.

Before and After

Well, I am trying to decorate now that the holidays are behind us. Yesterday hubby helped me pack up all of the Christmas decor. I went to Wal-mart and all the Christmas storage bins were 50% off:) So, I bought one for each room. Next year when I put up my decor, I can take out one room at a time! Genius, I know!
Look how nice they look on the shelf. The box above it our Christmas tree. The kiddos wanted to decorate it so it would look better in the garage.

BEFORE:
Remember these disastrous lamps I bought at a garage sale!?!

AFTER:
Well, I found some lamp shades that I like at Ross $4 each! Total cost per lamp was $4.50! YEAH! I think I will leave them like this for now because I like the simpleness of them.

Before:
It's the very top of the shelf that we are looking at. I didn't have a very good photo, Sorry. I had to crop off the bottom to focus on the top.

After:

Not much change, but I used the vase somewhere else. I want some longer pieces of drift wood to stick out of the top and I would take a lot of the other stuff out, but I don't have drift wood. So for now it is going to look like this.

Make Over

I received this little decoration when I got married. It is out dated.

I took it apart and reused the pieces! I used the branches here. I am working on my nook. I haven't been able to find a mirror that fits, so I am improvising. I am going to hang some art work there for now. (the blank canvous behind the branches is something I will be working on soon)

Wedding Bells

Well, here it is my friends, the long awaited wedding photos.

I took a photo of my outfit I made. I added some orange and gold jewelry and a red cardigan. I was going to make and wear a different necklace, but there was not time for that! (That will have to be another post)

Gorgeous!?! Yes I know.

Come....let me take you on a tour of the reception! When you walk to the door, hurricanes lined the walk way to set the romantic mood.
Here is a close up of the hurricanes. Sand in the bottom with a candle. Then fresh oranges and a few silk leaves surround the base.
You walk to an open door that has the bride and groom's initials hanging from wreath hooks.
When you walk into the room, to the left is the gift table (I didn't get a pic because it was just a table with a table cloth and presents stacked on it)
To the right there was a table draped with rich fabrics in cream and a burgundy. There is a TV playing a wedding video, a sign that says, " the (Couples Last Name) established 2009" with a center piece and a guest book. My little man wanted to be in the shot;)

A close up of the guest book shows a wonderful surprise. Each page has a different photo of the couple. This was my favorite picture because they are totally being themselves in this photo!

In that same room, the ring bearer (my little man) and the groom show their manly side!

I had hubby take a shot of the reception room! It looked so elegant. Please ignore the crazy person in the photo. She is not very photogenic.
A small entry way with shrubbery leads into this....a romantic oasis.

There was rich burgundy silks draped from the floors and across the ceiling, with strands of lights that created a soft glow.

The room ripples with the melodious sounds coming from a corner. There with a black folding screen sits a girl playing the harp.

To the immediate left of the harpist is the refreshment table. Set with fresh fruit, cranberries on a vine, and candles.

Look at these amazing deserts on a stick.

A small glass container holds fresh flowers and suckers.... all in the wedding colors.

There are 3 of these center pieces. Fresh flowers and greenery in a glass vase with fresh oranges and cranberries in the bottom. Details people, details!

At the end of the refreshment table is the drinking fountain. It has a burgundy light. Just water with a hint of lemon is served. With all the rich desserts, I think this was a wise choice;)

The table scapes were divine: fresh flowers, silk rose petals, candles, and a photo of the couple.

Close up of the center pieces. They put fresh oranges and cranberries with some water.

This concludes the wedding tour with Brenbren! Have a glorious day!

Art

I have been really into looking at art. I wish I had a few pieces, but we are paying off student loans, so that is a wish for now!

A classic!

Wish I could be there.....

Does this make you want to relax?

Gorgeous

Ditto!

What is she pondering?

I found this and I am wondering if it's just me and my husband's profession, but what does this look like to you?

I seriously think it looks like an ovary and egg, but it could just be me.

Can you feel the cold air, the trill of speeding down a snow covered hill?

Do you think he will get the cheese?

I just wanted to pose these questions for you.... to lighten your moods and get you thinking about art. You can never have too much of it!

Somebody stop me!

Please, I can't stop sewing. I have a compulsion. Gigi calls to me and I can't ignore.
So, I made the very LAST pair of Christmas Pj's! We are all matchy matchy. I have no more Christmas sewing to do! YEAH!
I put some appliques onto my shirt. I just cut out some butterflies and sewed them onto the front and......

....the side and back!

Hubby is going to feel very manly in these!!!!

Back of the shirt.

Hubby's work did a secrete Santa, so I made this for him. He had a single woman. I thought they turned out super cute! Guess what, they cost me $1.06 to make. I already had the wood and the paint. All I had to do was print out the pictures. Pretty amazing huh! Now that is Christmas on a budget;)

I made another Scoop. I am giving this to my sister-in-law. She is preggy! YEAH!

This is the inside fabric. I am a HUGE fan of black, read, and off white!

I have been helping my friend sew 4 aprons. 3 are for Christmas gifts and 1 is for herself. We finally finished them today! I think they turned out soooooooo cute! I couldn't decide which one I liked best! They are reversible, so we took pictures of both sides!

This is Jess, my model. Work it, work it!!!! This is for a sister-in-law

This apron is for her mother-in-law

This is the 1 she's keeping.

Preparing for Travel

To prepare for travel, I made:

3 fabric luggage tags using THIS tutorial, but mine turned out a little weird because I didn't really follow the directions. My advice, follow directions;) I used a fabric handle instead of elastic.

1 car seat bag using THIS tutorial. I followed MOST of the directions on this one. A few I didn't because I am putting 2 car seats in this bag. I do have one suggestion, make the bottom bigger and also make the bag taller, also taper it at the top slightly so when you pull the string to close it, the hole is smaller.

Another suggestion is make sure your foot isn't in the shot BEFORE you take the photo and upload it to your blog;)
